Calm conditions today and in complete whiteout again for most of the morning, spent most of the day also in and out of bands of loose pack ice. Late this afternoon weather cleared substantially and the sun came out for over an hour with the seas still quite flat which most are happy about. Plenty of whales both humpback and killer whales about this afternoon with a humpback family (including a calf) circling the ship at one stage which caused plenty of excitement. Also came across more of our Russian colleagues in the scientific research vessel the Akademik Karpinskiy this afternoon just north of the Russian Antarctic Station of Mirny. We made contact with the Voyage Leader via VHF radio and established that they were using sono buoys to undertake a seismic profile of the seabed. Clocks forward again tonight 1 hour (UTC+8). Cheers, Micky & Deepy
