Comments

Rough weather overnight saw our estimate for Mawson slide a little and we approached Kista Strait at just after 0800hrs this morning, even so still a remarkably quick passage from Davis in just on 39 hours. Wind this morning precluding entry to Horseshoe Harbour and as we did a lap up and back in Kista past the station most on board fairly excited to see Legoland propped up on the rock with cameras by the dozen going crazy. Intentions are to wait till the katabatic has dropped a little and then see where we are in relation to Ops @ Mawson options are if wind between 10-25kts then ops will commence from the entrance to Kista and we will run some limited cargo along with RTA a distance of approx 1.5nm from shore very similar to the distances we had been operating from at both Casey and Davis. We won't attempt an entry into Horseshoe unless the wind is below 10kts due to the sheer size of the vessel it presents a rather large "sail" area. Playing a waiting game at the moment and hoping for some relief in the wind before commencing ops, we are currently doing laps in a "racetrack" type holding pattern similar to aircraft waiting for clearance to land. As the old adage goes "Hurry up and wait !!....." Cheers, Micky & Deepy
