Comments

Well the weather seems to have disapated somewhat today with the wind dropping and for a brief moment even allowing the sun to come out for about 1/2 hour before clouding over again. On the wildlife front we came across almost a dozen fur seals resting comfortably in the loose pack last night which got everyone quite excited as most remarked they'd never seen them this far south before. The birdlife has picked as well since the wind died down and flocks of Antarctic Petrels have been shadowing the ship for most of the morning. The thought to be postponed BBQ actually went ahead for dinner last night in the protective lee of the ships superstructure with many of our Russian colleagues who were not on shift attending, the Australian beef steaks proving a crowd favourite along with a mouthwatering potato salad and green salad enjoyed by all. Meetings held today with the watercraft team re cargo discharge and back loading of RTA to discuss order of ops and rosters for the short stay ahead. Also rope splicing of watercraft tie up lines took place in the rec room with many thinking that they had inadvertantly wandered into a secret society of FTO's backing silently and slowly out of the room. ETA for Davis slipping slightly overnight now 0100 hrs (Davis local time) 14th February 2009 on our current course & speed. Cheers, Micky & Deepy
