Comments

On passage conducting marine science. Our wishes for a good night's sleep were answered last night, with calm seas and light winds making for a comfortable passage. The good weather continued this morning with a sensational sunrise greeting the early risers. The trend has continued throughout the morning and into the afternoon with the sun beaming down between the clouds and the air temperature maintaining about 10 C. The second last CTD cast was conducted this morning at Station 10 down to a depth of 3500m. All went well, including the surface sampling regime and we were underway again shortly before 1130. One more to go. We had the pleasure this morning of a visit by two pods of Pilot Whales, the first numbering close to 100 the second around 20. Quite a sight to see early in the morning. The bird life has certainly picked up in the last 10 hours or so, with two Wandering Albatrosses gracing us with their presence as well as some Short Tailed Shearwaters and an Antipodean Albatross. Erratum to yesterday's SITREP, the PERSEVERANCE was a Brig not a Brigantine, sorry to all those Square Rig Sailors and Historians out there. regards Rob, Aaron & MIck
