Comments

Our slow and steady tour of the waters to the north of the pack ice continues this morning, with the added bonus of reduced visibility caused by fog and snow. Looks like another day where the chances of flying are slightly better than 0. Our shore party at Syowa reported that the Australia Day blizzard had been a beauty with 82knt winds and snow piled high. All expeditioners at Syowa were confined to their accommodation buildings during the night and into yesterday. After the winds abated the digging out started. The major concern for all was the helicopters and after using a bulldozer to create a path to the helipad all the aircraft were found to have weathered the storm well, due to precautions taken by the Helicopter Resources team. The forecast indicates an improving trend starting today, which would hopefully mean a resumption of play in the forenoon tomorrow. So it looks like today will be devoted to DVDs, books, sleep, gym and some marine science. All aboard and ashore doing well but over the DVDs, books, sleep and gym and just want to get cracking with the remainder of our work. Regards, Rob, Aaron and Mick
