Overnight the ship attempted to make an entry into the pack ice off Syowa, but encountered a heavy band of ice and had to back out. We are currently moving to the east to attempt another entry recommended by Capt Shigehara-san. Beautiful morning at the moment with the Snow petrels Arriving to meet us. Yesterday afternoon we had a visit from King Neptune, the ruler of the seas south of 60 Degrees. First timers to these parts were inducted into the exclusive club via an elaborate ceremony, involving a fish and a large bucket of brown stuff with what I think was parmesan cheese in it. I've washed my hair twice and I can still smell it. The ship's water usage went through the roof as showers and washing machines went into overdrive last night. Thanks to all involved for putting on a good show and to Gerry... green really highlights your eyes. Preparations in full swing as we might get a chance to fly today. First off is priority cargo and JARE expeditioners. All doing well. Regards, Rob, Aaron and Mick
