Once again the weather has changed for the better, this morning we are making excellent progress through relatively calm seas with very light winds. There is the added bonus that the sun may make an appearance today. This is in contrast to blowing snow, 100m visibility, 30knt winds and 4m swells yesterday. The last of the helicopter briefings were held yesterday afternoon as well as some preliminary meetings regarding the Syowa resupply operation. It was planned to have a BBQ on the trawl deck last night, but due to the fact that it was awash and knee deep in snow most of the day, Plan B was enacted and we reconvened to the restaurant and had an indoor BBQ. The Iron Chefs themselves Shinohara-san and Mugisawa-san joined with the AA's Chefs Peter-san, Stuart-san and Kyle-san to produce a multinational gastronomical extravaganza that was enjoyed by all. Miso soup, Japanese cold beef salad and Pavlova were on the menu, fusion food at its finest. Well done team! Following the BBQ, a fund raising event for Camp Quality was held. The hair clippers were working flat-out with over 20 heads being shaved during the night. There are now a number of mohawks and other outrageous heads of hair walking around the ship and probably a lot of people looking in the mirror for the first time this morning and crying. The AA's resident Ninja also made another appearance, in full shadow warrior gear. Anyway, the money raised is for a good cause and it was great to see so many people willing to get involved. The Daily Spa Report: Not used due to snow storm, possible use today. Once more the clocks were wound back another hour we are now on UTC+4 which is seven hours behind Hobart time (UTC+11). Only one more hour to be wound back and we will be on Syowa time (UTC+3). All aboard doing well and eagerly anticipating our entry into the pack ice off Syowa. Regards, Rob, Aaron and Mick
