Yesterday saw us complete all the tasks at Atlas Cove including hut maintenance, water sampling, AWS calibration, photographic survey (including stereographic imaging) of wildlife, flora, huts and refuges and the heritage artifacts. We left Atlas Cove last night to steam down the north side of Heard Island (HI). The photographic team were joined by most of the expeditioners onboard to enjoy the great views of HI as the sun set. Back in Atlas Cove this morning and once again we were able to get the helicopters (both this time) in the air. We completed all of the various tasks that required their use at HI. Dave piloting the S76 twin engine helicopter did a full circumnavigation photographic survey of the island, both stills and high definition video, photos of glacial extent and wildlife colonies. Ric piloting the AS350B2 took a party of three who searched (unsuccessfully) for an AWS and visited the huts and refuges checking their state, securing any waste and debris and photographically documenting their work. We are now steaming post haste to McDonald's for a drive through (photographic survey!). Regards, Andy and Susan
