We continued our slow progress through the fast ice overnight. Labudda Drive was extended to over a mile, clearing a path of snow that proved to give the ship a good advantage. We are now parked at the resupply position, 2.8 km from station, and will start refuelling, cargo and water operations after lunch. Final briefings, inductions and rosters for all resupply activities are now complete. The two S76s departed for Mirny at 0800 this morning and arrived there at 1125. Their patient will be brought back to the Davis medical facility until V1 departs. Yesterday three camera systems were successfully deployed on Gardner Island for the Adelie penguin monitoring program and additional radar tests were conducted from the ship this morning. We are doing our best to ensure the science programs have small wins in between all the changing operational requirements. The Wilkins team spent overnight in the field as part of their field training, and will return to the ship today before joining the cargo rosters tomorrow. The next group of 8 Casey summerers will undertake field training after the refuelling is complete. Everyone onboard is well and looking forward to a successful resupply. Finally, thanks to the many people who’ve correct my spelling from yesterday’s sitrep. It is a Kassbohrer….of course!
