Comments
Overnight and today we have made very slow progress through the fast ice, which is unusually thick at 1.8 m, with a considerable snow cover in some areas. We have been backing and ramming for 18 hours and come less than 1 nautical mile. Consequently the resupply will not start today as expected. Yesterday about 30 people went ashore and have been undertaking station and vehicle inductions in preparation for resupply to commence. Flights with the radar and laser altimeters were also conducted over the fast ice and coast as part of the science program.
