Comments

The weather cleared dramatically yesterday afternoon and it was a wonderful sight to see the US Herc descend from the sky and land on the skiway at Davis. Well done to the weather forecasters who predicted the break in weather after the horrible conditions yesterday morning. Everyone on the ship was up on deck to watch the plane came into land, after which we celebrated the Melbourne Cup, enjoyed a few drinks in the restaurant and launched the 2008-09 inaugural head shaving event, which raised over $10,000 for Camp Quality. Some prize scalps went under the clippers. Then this morning, a sight more welcome that the arrival of the Herc, was its departure, knowing that the medivac is in its final phase. Our very best wishes go to Dwayne and his family. We are now preparing to break through the fast ice and commence the Davis resupply tomorrow morning, and monitoring the weather for possible flights to both Mirny and Mawson. Everyone onboard is well and have been briefed on the revised schedules for V1 and V2.
