Comments

The amazing run we have had with the weather continues, with winds under 20 kn through the night. We’ve completed our daily ration of four CTDs, plus deep and shallow trace metal casts. We can’t quite smell land yet, but the water properties (temperature warmer than 13C, salinity greater than 35) tell us we are getting close. As we get further north, we expect to cross some westward flow, part of a current system that links the three southern hemisphere subtropical ocean basins, known as the “supergyre”. Because of the unusually good weather we’ve enjoyed and the excellent work from all on board, we will be getting in early: ETA Hobart 0800 Thursday April 17. Cheers, Steve and Deepy.
