Comments

Four CTD stations, two trace metal rosette deployments, one Argo float and one XBT test completed in the last 24 hours. Deep samples were also taken to make the first measurements of the element neodydium in the Southern Ocean. We have crossed the Polar Front and are beginning to cross the Subantarctic Front, the strongest current jet associated with the Antarctic Circumpolar Current. The strong currents have carried us a mile or two to the east on each of the last two stations. We expect the winds to increase overnight, before easing tomorrow, so will take this opportunity to give everyone a short break and let the “heroes” come out of hiding for our second special occasion. Cheers, Steve and Deepy.
