Comments

Yesterday afternoon the Captain positioned the ship in a protected area off the station in Garden Cove. This allowed enough protection to fit the helicopter blades and fly them both off to the station before last night. It was great to finish a big day of difficult and delicate operations with such a success. All the round trip projects ashore that needed to be in the field are now out in the huts and it was excellent to hear them all on the radio last night with their intentions for fieldwork over the next day or so. This morning the wind has swung more Northerly and there is a swell and sea running down the length of the Island. This morning we again positioned in Garden Cove and stacked some cargo from the hold onto the deck. The LARC came out and delivered Chris, the Macca beachmaster(Cargo boss)to the ship to look at the cargo to go ashore with Andy. Windy conditions and strong gusts prevented flying so we secured the cargo on deck and steamed south again waiting for conditions to get better. We had a great view of Lusitania Bay penguin colony where over 300,000 King Penguins are breeding. With a report from the Station leader that flying may be possible we are now moving back into Buckles Bay to see if we can get some cargo off. Let's see what the afternoon holds for us!
