We said goodbye to the ice in style last night with a BBQ on the trawl deck. Steaks, sausages, kebabs and of course Brownie’s best chilli prawns and scallops were on offer in abundance – the galley crew again outdid themselves with the catering. No one can claim to go hungry onboard this ship. The highlight of the evening was the appearance of whales off the stern – they then breached with their bodies clear of the water for those on the trawl deck to see. The movie watchers were displaced from their theatre last night for the music video marathon but normality has returned again today. Most people are getting some well earned rest after a very busy resupply at Mawson, or working to get end of season reports finished. This morning there were still sightings of icebergs and the occasional growler (submerged ice lumps) in the water but they are rapidly disappearing. Soon it will be just uninterrupted ocean for us (over three thousand miles of it) until we approach the Tasmanian coast. Cheers, Nicki, Rob and Peter.
