Finally we make some progress – what a big afternoon we had yesterday. Once the wind dropped there was action everywhere. Drums were flown off the helideck at the aft end of the ship while cargo was loaded from the forward holds onto the barge to be driven ashore. At the shore end there were people driving plant and machinery to move incoming cargo between the wharf and buildings, receiving and stacking drums and completing trades and roundtrip tasks around the station. Today we moved back in to Mawson earlier than usual on the promise of good weather from our onboard forecasters – and they weren’t wrong. The first barge was in the water and on its way before 11am. We have made a large dent in the ingoing cargo and are about to commence the RTA transfer back out to the ship. The weather forecast is looking good for the rest of today and tomorrow. At this stage we plan to depart from Mawson later on Saturday. Cheers, Nicki, Rob and Peter.
