Comments

Yesterday afternoon saw us remain parked up in the fast ice still waiting for the wind to abate. The forecast promised improving weather but we didn’t see it throughout Wednesday. In the afternoon we moved over one hundred empty drums from Davis from our hatch lids aft to the helideck where we filled them with our spare aviation fuel. We will fly this fuel in to Mawson over the next few days to give them a little bit extra for the coming season as we won’t be needing it out here. This activity was welcomed by many onboard – inactivity is starting to become frustrating. Consensus is that there are only so many movies to watch and books to read before the desire to get out and do something gets the better of you. This morning’s forecast is much more positive with winds dropping over the next three days – Saturday looks like being the best day since our arrival here. In the mean time we have moved back in to Mawson this morning and are currently moving slowly in front of the station waiting for the wind to abate to safe working levels (it’s currently gusting up to 35 knots) before we get back in to passenger and cargo transfer. We only need a couple of good weather days to get this done . . . please. Cheers, Nicki, Rob and Peter.
