Comments

It was all action here yesterday afternoon - and also a fair bit of 'hurry up and wait'. The people working on the ship, the shore and the barge did an amazing job to complete inwards cargo transfer, move nearly 80 people back to the ship as well as load all the planned Davis RTA and two helicopters onto the ship before we pulled out last night. The weather was kind to us with winds easing greatly during the afternoon. We swapped four people who came from Hobart with us and will stay for winter for forty people now on their way home after winters/summers at the station. Our expeditioner population onboard has almost doubled in an afternoon. Thankyou Davis Station for your hospitality over the past few days, and for your understanding in accommodating constantly changing plans. For the winterers remaining behind at Davis we wish you a successful, safe and of course fun-filled stay at Davis. We are currently heading north east to move out to open water before heading west to Mawson - we are nearly back to the huge iceberg that we almost circumnavigated trying to find our way in to Davis earlier in the week. Planning is now well underway for our stay at Mawson, where we again commence resupply and refuelling operations whilst running the same extensive round trip program we have completed at Casey and Davis. Busy times are still ahead - with pack ice and a grounded iceberg in Horseshoe Harbour still standing between us and the completion of our work. Cheers, Nicki, Rob and Peter.
