Well the usual thing happened to the plan - it's gone out the window and now we have a new one - the "A" (Antarctic) factor strikes again. The wind continued to increase yesterday afternoon with barge operations (all cargo and passengers runs) being called to a halt around 16:00. With no watercraft able to move between ship and shore people bunkered down to wait out the weather. A rapid increase in wind speed this morning resulted in the vessel leaving our Davis anchorage to transit westward in a following sea - we are now about 55 nautical miles from Davis, off the coast near the Chinese station, Zhong Shan. While the sea is rough and the wind still blowing up to 50 knots, the vessel is travelling well in a following sea - thanks to Captain Murray and the crew for improving passenger comfort for the 13 expeditioners still onboard. With most people still ashore at Davis, the Aurora movie appreciation club will continue to run the matinee and evening movies until we return to Davis to send the final cargo ashore, load the RTA cargo and of course collect our friends who will be travelling on to Mawson or home to Hobart with us. Cheers, Nicki, Rob and Peter.
