We had a good run to the West overnight following a slower day yesterday making our way NW through variable ice, at times having to turn back and try another route. The ice is variable with some new and 1st year ice mingled with some multi year ice with pressure features. Numerous icebergs loom past in the mist. We have been using satellite images extensively and will head Sw at some stage today back though a gap in the thicker ice toward the open water polyna East of Mawson. The forecast snow and Easterly wind have arrived, and we do not expect good flying conditions before Sunday at best. We hope to get to a fly off point around 50Nm from Mawson along the fast ice edge, which shows up clearly on Sat images, and expect the flying will take a couple of days when the weather allows. Pretty quiet on board and all well. Regards, Don and Hully
