We cleared the heavy ice floe which held us up Tuesday night and were able to put up a helicopter for ice reconnaissance late morning. This showed clearer conditions to the north, and we followed leads for the remainder Wednesday. It became Misty in the afternoon, eventually requiring the ship to park in the ice late last night, and recommence at 0600 today as it began to clear. Satellite images showing ice cover provided via Davis and Casey forecasters have been very useful. The Easterlies predicted are beginning to reach us and we expect increasing cloud and wind over the next couple of days as we near Mawson fly off. In other breaking news David Wilson won the shipboard ping pong cup yesterday in a gripping final with peter Tsimnadis, otherwise a pretty "chilled" part of the voyage. All well.
