Comments

We encountered heavy pack ice yesterday, and following a lunchtime Ice reconnaissance flight spent the remainder of the day icebreaking and following poor leads until we stopped last night in heavier ice. Perfect weather today so commenced a long range fly off from 79.45 Nm. All 3 helicopters busy with transfer of 39 inbound personnel to Casey. Unlikely to make much headway on the 13 tonnes of fly off cargo today, so we will be looking closely at forecasts for the next few days. Don't know at this stage whether we will make any more progress toward Casey. All well on board, We finally saw our first iceberg yesterday - well after we were surrounded by sea ice. People enjoying the sunny weather and the odd penguin or seal who comes by to greet us. Regards, Don and Anthony
