We completed ice station 9 this afternoon, which was a relatively short station in an area of high sea ice biomass. The conditions in this area are particularly deformed and it is very slow going with the ship. We made no progress overnight. A helicopter recce this morning showed that some leads are opening up to the north, but we have at least 10 miles of difficult ice before conditions improve. The wind however, is favourable, with light westerlies that should help open up the pack. Regards, Tony, Dave and Petra.
