We are currently at ice station 6. It is a clear, sunny and mild day, and conditions out on the ice are positively tropical compared to earlier ice stations. The advice from our FTO (Floe Testing Object) today was to "dress down" or suffer heat exhaustion! We are in an area of fast ice just east of the Dalton Iceberg Tongue, which is quite spectacular. An ice recce to the north this morning showed that recent strong winds have generated a swell that has penetrated almost to 65S, creating many small floes. This is good for navigation but may pose a problem for sampling on the way north. Yesterday's white out conditions provided a good opportunity for King Neptune to drop in for a visit and all the landlubbers setting foot in this icy realm for the first time were duly inducted. The weather cleared about 20:00 enabling us get underway. We conducted an RMT late last night and caught a good amount of krill. Everybody's work is progressing well. Regards, Tony, Dave and Petra.
