Comments

We conducted our first Under Ice Trawl last night after we departed Ice Station 2, followed by an RMT. The trawl deployments were successful, but we didn't catch much except a lot of ice and a few krill larvae. We steamed west overnight and arrived at Ice Station 3 this morning. The clear morning has given way to overcast conditions, but helicopter operations are underway with a sortie to the fast ice approximately 80 nautical miles SE. Most of the scientific teams are currently out on the ice. We have limited email comms to or from the ship today because of the orientation of the antenna relative to our ship heading at this ice station. We have strong easterly winds forecast for tomorrow, so we have positioned the ship in an area of lighter ice, with the intention of heading further south once the weather is more favourable. Regards, Tony, Dave and Petra.
