Comments

We started work at ice station 8 late yesterday afternoon and continued well into the evening. At 04:00 this morning the ice around our main floe began to break up and we retrieved most of the instrumentation as a precaution. This was completed by 05:30. The ice has since stabilised and allowed all parties to continue their measurements. The oceanographers were excited to find relatively warm modified circumpolar deep water advected on to the continental shelf in this region. Helicopter operations are also underway, conducting instrument flights over the fast ice to our south, along ICESat satellite ground tracks. We expect to leave this location after dinner tonight and conduct some trawls. Regards, Tony, Dave and Petra.
