Comments

Friday 13th has brought a change of luck for us at least, which has for now postponed sacrificial rituals to the great weather rabbit planned for today. The forecast easing occurred overnight with almost still conditions in overcast by late morning today. Helicopter operations commenced at 0800 with 6 pax ship to shore, and since then 3 helicopters have been in the air almost continuously flying ship shore and down island operations. A significant amount of cargo has now been discharged by helicopter and operations continue. Heard Point hut has been resupplied and crew now at Waterfall bay hut. Over flights at Sandy bay have commenced for Giese program. LARC finally coming ashore with its first load of the resupply, so hoping it can now commence cargo ops proper although the ship is still rolling at anchor. For those on ship the wind turned more southerly and became rough offshore for a period last night. The subsequent Southerly element in the surf has precluded refueling today but we are now hopeful to get a day in Saturday with lower winds forecast. With 3 days now lost to weather we are still likely to extend our stay by 2 days - but stay tuned. Down Island hut based programs continuing and we expect to see the first 6 walkers return today to regale the station with their tales of discovery. Regards Don and Brett
