Comments

High winds overnight and today not forecast to moderate until Friday with the passage of a deep low to the South of us. Single helicopter exchange of personnel ship - shore this morning. No other cargo or helicopter operations to ship or ashore due to wind. Decision taken this morning to extend our planned departure by 1 day or more depending upon progress of refuel and essential resupply operations. We have now lost 3 full days due to weather since our arrival on Sunday Morning. Yesterday afternoons helicopter cargo operation lasted only a few loads before snow showers closed in, followed by a scurry to fly passengers back to ship. The field hut groups are happy to have another planned day and all progressing well, while those on ship and station sit it out. Shipboard folk have been seen washing clothes and enjoying a pod of Pilot and a trio of Killer whales as we steam up and down the East Coast of the Island. Spectacular swells are visible across the Isthmus on the Western side and we are grateful to be in the Lee of the Island, which is now covered in a mantle of snow. We hope a forecast moderation on Friday will allow cargo operations to recommence. Regards Don and Brett
