Comments

We continued to rock and roll yesterday as the swell came from a few different directions. It has been great to hear of the success of the season this year from the Science, Engineering, Construction and Station Operations programs. In the last few days we have had talks from science programs who flew onto the Amery ice shelf by helicopter to study the rifting of a huge section of ice known as the "Loose Tooth" while others dived beneath the ice and worked in labs at Casey to investigate heavy metal contaminants in sediments and measure photosynthetic rates of aquatic algae. In the next two days we look forward to hearing about the study of Weddell seals at Davis and investigations into Penguin colonies at Mawson. These are just a few of the many activities that those on the ship, and others, have undertaken thus far this season as part of the Australian Antarctic Program. Good conditions today and we are steaming along with 506 nautical miles to go! ETA alongside Princess Intermediate Wharf is 0800 Sunday, 1 April 2007. Yours Aye Robb and Simon
