Yesterday was another great day with an amazing effort by all involved in delivering and returning cargo. It's hard work for long hours. Huge bags of concrete sand, concrete slabs, containers and all manner of other cargo emerged from the hold while gear bound for Hobart was loaded back onto the ship from station. An elite team of drum rollers from Davis went to the ship and combined with those on board moved over 250 drums of aviation fuel from the bow to the stern by rolling them down the decks. Being inside the ship it sounded like a subway! It was fascinating yesterday to see pancakes of sea ice forming in the water and then rafting up and bonding together to form icy rafts stretching from ship to shore. Winter is approaching Davis before our very eyes. The zodiac didn't quite have the ice breaking capability to get through this and even the barge found it hard working in a slush puppy. Luckily we have our junior ice breaker, the AA2, should things get too sticky. Simon, Gary and Per continue to play a game on the ship that is a cross between chess and Rubik's cube as they manoeuvre, stow and arrange cargo. Getting this right is quite an art to ensure we are set up for operations at Progress, Mawson and Casey. Their language as they plan sounds foreign with talk of slots, cubes, lowers, twist locks and lids. Powered by coffee they are winning the game. We expect to load the bulk of Hobart bound passengers this afternoon, continue loading cargo tomorrow and then sail for Progress station tomorrow night to offload the fuel. Stay tuned. Yours Aye Robb and Simon
