Mixed conditions yesterday with more wind, swell and sea continuing to rock us around until an evening change saw calmer conditions prevail. Overnight the weather picked up again and we woke this morning to more swell and motion. This morning on the bridge we had some hail and snow showers and then at about 9am the first ice berg we have sighted loomed out of one of the showers. At 15 nautical miles away we estimated it's length, by sextant, to be about 500m. We will now start recording the number of icebergs around the ship within 6nm, along with their size, for scientists back in Hobart. There are now a number of bergs around us and it's great to see some ice to confirm that we have in fact been heading South! Yours Aye Robb and Simon
