Comments

Recovered O-string sediment traps, with the expert aim of the grappling hook. Deployed NIWA rosette, McLean pumps and ring nets before weather and sea state deteriorated and operations were halted. Winds gusting over 40 knots with southwesterly swells of 5m with rogue larger waves coming up over the trawl deck. Barometric pressure increasing gradually after a low of 998 hPa around 1200 UTC. Australia Day lunch (held today due to operational considerations) was a feast enjoyed by everyone. Weather permitting, we expect to recover the drifting P-string sediment trap and complete the first process station this evening, heading for station 5 tonight. Regards Vicky & Karin
