We are presently at the first process station, and expect to remain here for about 6-7 days. Pulse mooring recovery completed. Unfortunately the top instrument package had been lost prior to arrival. Recovered the sediment traps in the lower part of the mooring. Minicosm in hanger rinsed twice and then filled. The pH will be adjusted on these tanks to simulate the future CO2 levels, and to understand how the ecosystems will adapt to the change. CTD's to 2500m, 100m and 1000m for a wide range of experiments. Jelly fish clean out was required after one of the casts. Deployed P-string sediment trap this morning, this is a drifting sediment trap at 150m. CTD after lunch to 1000m to collect samples for phytoplankton pigments, cell counts and flow cytometry. The AC-S and the Cat instruments have been cleverly combined by our sterling marine science crew, and have been christened the Catax which was deployed during the CTD. Now preparing to deploy second drifting sediment trap. Scientists busily working away in their labs. Great view of comet McNaught again last night. Regards Vicky & Karin
