Comments

We have just started refuelling the station. It took us longer than expected to get at the equipment we needed to set up the fuel line so it wasn’t til lunchtime today that we were able to start preparing for pumping. The hose was laid out across the water by a trio of inflatable boats and anchored to a series of buoys. The inflatable boats will patrol the line and keep watch for any floating ice that might interfere with it. The ship’s workboat will be on hand to deal with any icy chunks beyond the capability of the boats. The refuelling will take more than 24 hours so a round the clock watch will be maintained in the boats and at the ship and shore ends. While that is going on we will continue to transfer cargo ashore but at a reduced rate to prevent any interference with the refuelling operation. Its an overcast day and groups of five or six penguins can be seen porpoising across the bay. Their voices can sometimes be heard over the sounds of the various boats and machinery. What do you call the noise a penguin makes?
