Yesterday the weather lifted by lunchtime and the helicopters came down from Davis, landing on our deck. After a short consultation they were into it. We had a pause for bad weather and dinner but otherwise the helicopters and deck crew kept working until the nine at night. All the ingoing Chinese expeditioners were delivered and a good start was made on their cargo. A field party was also deployed directly into the Larsemann Hills. Just as the cargo operations finished for the day our lucky whale surfaced in a hole in the ice about one hundred meters off the stern of the ship. When we got up the next morning the whale was there again visiting the small breathing holes around us. Today we aim to finish delivering the rest of the Chinese cargo. Right now the weather is lifting and we are about to start flying again. The Christmas decorations went up yesterday reminding us that it is the festive season.
