Encountered a surprising swell in the open water between Davis and the sea ice yesterday, which was a rude re-introduction to ocean travel for our new ship mates, and a reminder of what the Southern Ocean may have in store for us. So far, the sea ice has been another surprise, but a pleasant one this time. We have made excellent progress since leaving Davis, and have only encountered a few stubborn bands of ice (one of which we're currently in). We're all rattling about in here now, as there's so few of us. Not quite a ghost ship, but after the crowded days of 130-ish on board, 42 seems pretty quiet. Regards from Doug and Nicky
