Apologies for the hurried comments yeasterday. After the heli recce we headed west to regain some open water around the ship, passing through some heavily ridged/rafted sections, before "parking" for the evening. The conditions around the ship last night were superb, but heavy cloud to our south hinted that things weren't so great in the direction we wanted to go flying. So we contented ourselves with the sunset, and several Minke whales that popped up around the ship, sharing the open water with us. Conditions today have deteriorated once again, both here and at Mawson. At this stage we intend maintaining this distance to Mawson, hoping for a window of opportunity in the weather. Ice to our immediate south is very heavy. On a personal note, I'd like to thank the inventor of Macadamia-nut ice-cream. Mmmmmm. ;-) REGARDS Doug and Nicki
