Making really good progress through the sea ice at present, working our way from way-point to waypoint (or "puddle to puddle" as they've been christened) using ice concentration charts derived from radar satellite data. We're aiming for an area of low ice concentration that appears to be opening slightly, suggesting a route heading south-east towards the north of the Petersen Bank. Cold and snowing outside (wind chill -25 degrees) with a few folk heading out to the pointy end of the ship for a snowball fight this morning. A big fund-raising head-shaving extravaganza last night, which was a lot of fun and raised a hefty sum for the kids of Camp Quality. Happy Birthday to the Master of our intrepid vessel, Scott Laughlin... Which is NOT a special occasion... So he only got a surprise brekky in his cabin. Rumours of an impending visit from King Neptune. Also hoping the weather may clear to allow an ice reconnaissance flight this arvo. REGARDS Doug and Nicki
