Comments

In the vicinity of the SAZ-B mooring site for the last 21 hours. Arrived 1510 yesterday and contacted the mooring immediately. Released the mooring, but had a much longer wait than was usual before sighting any floats. The reason why became apparent later... Commenced mooring recovery at 0738 UTC, but the game was all over by 0947 UTC, with only one sediment trap recovered, having "lost" the top 1718m of the 4293m long string, along with two sediment traps and two current meters. Not sure when they were lost, but they didn't come to the surface on our watch! Low flying submarine perhaps? The UTAS team have come up with a cunning plan to replace the mooring, which is about to be deployed as I write. We hope to be heading off to SAZ-C later this afternoon, with fingers and toes crossed for continuing good conditions. REGARDS Doug & Rob
