First iceberg sighted 1441 ship time yesterday at 61.29.25S and 116.22.8E. From mid afternoon we entered the outer pack and during the afternoon and night travelled through a mixture of open water and large floes of up to nine tenths first year ice with some areas of second year and rafted ice. Today has been mainly large ice floes of the same ice cover with fewer areas of open water. The weather remains good and the cloud ceiling has lifted. We hope to be in a position later today to undertake the first ice reconnaissance flight. If we are able to maintain current progress we might reach fly-off range tomorrow morning. All pax remain well and others with the flu type lurgi continue to improve. The crossing of the line ceremony was conducted successfully in the afternoon followed by a BBQ. Tonight we we be holding the Camp Quality fund rasing activity and it looks like there will be a number of willing volunteers for the cause.
