Better weather today although still too cloudy for a usable satpix on this morning's pass. Given good visibility this morning and after bunkers review yesterday, decided to head south again aiming for what should, given the strong easterly winds of recent days, be a lead in the lee of the Petersen Bank. Slight hint of 'water sky' in that direction this time is encouraging. Ice so far is a real challenge with many 100-200 m diameter sized floes that would easily be two metres thick. Floes of a smaller dimension that are 'only' 1.5 m thick fill up the spaces between the 'big' boys. Ship is working the ice very well but the most difficult section may be yet to come even though openish water is 'only' around 20 nm away. ETA Casey still very much unknown but SL Casey being kept abreast of developments.
