Comments

From the time of sending previous report until 1634 local time when we encountered the ice edge at 67 19, 62 3 sea conditions were moderate with 1 to 2 metre swell. At 1640 commenced penetrating through ice nine tenths first year until we reached fast ice edge where ice thickness reduced to around 80 to 100cm. At 2045 entered thinner ice of around 40cm and this continued until we arrived in Kista Strait at 2115. After making some passes close to the Mawson harbour entrance stopped in thin ice 20 - 30cm for the night. This morning we have been travelling up, down and around in Kista Strait, in front of Horseshoe Harbour to break up ice and awaiting wind to drop to enter harbour and attempt to break out ice. All passengers continue to travel well. REGARDS Richard and Jenny
