Comments

Wednesday: Helicopter ops started 0830; mail in and SL out to brief incoming Mawson expeditioners; priority pax, food etc flown in, then ABC crew and station geologist to Ledinghams Depot and Colbeck to collect rocks, film science and scenery; further 6 loads priority #1 cargo ashore and RTA backloaded; operations ceased 1945. Fast ice edge broke away due to sunshine and swell, so ship eased further in – every little bit helps to reduce flying time of approx 1 hour RT per load. Prospects good for today, with continuing fine weather; hope to get 18 winterers, remaining priority #1 cargo and some priority #2 drum fuel ashore. All well and happy on board, though ice too unstable to allow gangway down. REGARDS Louise and Jane
