Arrived on site at SAZ-B mooring at 1500 yesterday, and despite repeated attempts were unable to communicate with either of the moorings hydroacoustic release mechanisms. At first light this morning sent the signal to release anyway, hoping the mechanism may still respond. Have spent today in a search pattern in the vicinity of the mooring, and have just flown an extended helicopter recce. This has shown that the mooring has definitely not released. We now intend to conduct a 6nm-spaced hyrophone survey around the site, just to be sure. At this stage however, we're not hopeful of recovering the mooring, and may turn for Hobart tonight, anticipating a mid-Monday return. Please note however, that this is based on us NOT locating the mooring later today... REGARDS Dug
