Everything was going really well yesterday... until about 1600, when our perfect floe started to break up under the influence of some swell that was generated in the polynya area as we cleared the shelter of A4. So we packed up and got all the gear on board (a quick 40 minute recovery) to consider our options. We attempted to "re-dock" with the floe later in the evening, but only succeeded in breaking the floe up even more. Heli flights the day before had shown that there wasn't much in the vicinity to choose from, so we stuck with what was left of the floe (still a sizeable chunk) for the evening. This morning we have nudged alongside using thrusters, and have redeployed the ice tent and other sampling groups. So far, the floe is holding up well. Helicopter hours for the week: 8.2. Bunker fuel: 625100 litres. ATK: 42187 litres. REGARDS Dug
