Flew recon flight at 0615hrs local this morning which indicates fairly consistent ice cover ahead. Currently making steady progress toward the Petersen Bank, with all six engines on. Present weather indications are that a cloud band and associated low pressure will move over the ship and the approaches to Casey later in the afternoon. This will bring increased low altitude cloud and possibly snow which will in turn impact on both our recon capacity and the possibility of flying mail and fresh food into the station in advance of the ship's arrival. Nevertheless, fingers crossed! Yesterday: flew two ice recon flights in the afternoon. REGARDS J&L
