Yesterday afternoon and evening flew two ice recon flights as ship made fairly slow progress through dense and at times consolidated pack ice, in places over 2m thick and with 0.3m snow cover . Now making slow but steady progress in more open water. Training and lecture activities continuing. All well. REGARDS J&L
