Now back on AEDST. We collected a fine 10m kelp raft sample yesterday for study. It probably came from Kerguelen Island some 1,700nm away, after spending over 165 days adrift at sea. Kelp rafts are thought to be important in the dispersal of marine invertebrates. Made good time yesterday despite pausing for the kelp raft collection. Made contact with a Qantas overflight early today. Voyage dinner tonight, with casual live music beforehand. Still estimating Hobart on Wednesday 23 January.
