Comments

Spent most of yesterday about 3nm from PolarB. By 1930 there were signs of reduced pressure in the pack. A recce showed good leads and our original track in, only 1.2nm to our north, with even better conditions further north back out to 3/10 pack in Prydz Bay. Convinced that our escape route looked good, and the weather/winds favourable, we started to work Aurora down a lead to PolarB's stern. It took 4 hours to make the few miles through patches with major rafting. By 0100 local we were within 3 ship lengths of PolarB. This last 300m proved "challenging", taking 8 hours to get us to a position where both ships are now bow to bow at right angles. We have mooring ropes attached to her bow, and are attempting to pull her around and into our track. Our intentions are to then turn Aurora around and break a track for both ships back out into the open pack of Prydz Bay some 20nm to our north.
