"Is your wife pregnant?" was the first question posed. Remarkably, I said, not that I am aware of. “Are you interested in traveling to Antarctica for work?” “Yes, and when,” was my response!

Here I am, on Davis Station (ANTARCTICA), telling my story and bringing pride to my family back home!

Going to Antarctica can be an unforgettable experience, especially if you are passionate about your field.

When considering whether or not to accept this opportunity, it is essential to consider the needs of your family, including your partner, and your loved ones. The demands of this job may impact your relationship with your partner and could lead to stress for your loved ones. However, if your partner is also supportive of the opportunity and you feel that this experience will enrich your lives, then it may be a decision worth making.

My voyage to Antarctica started off rather strangely.

Friday morning, September 8, 2023 It was my responsibility to gather data and send an email listing every trade needed to complete a specific task. I received a call thirty minutes after sending the email asking me to come into the office right away. "Is your wife pregnant?" was the first question posed. Remarkably, I said, not that I am aware of.  “Are you interested in traveling to Antarctica for work?” “Yes, and when,” was my response.

I was notified that the flight to Hobart is scheduled to depart on Monday, September 11, 2023, at 9:00 a.m., for a mandatory three-week training program prior to a voyage on NUYINA directly to Antarctica (Davis Station). I was also told to take the remainder of the day off, talk to your partner, and notify work as soon as possible as.

When I called the misso, she didn't answer. I returned home, waited to inform her, and then awaited her response. She asked when, sounding anxious, and I replied, "In two days." There was silence for a minute, then she hugged me and said she’s starting to miss me already.

When my 5-year-old daughter noticed that we were hugging, she leaped in to join in and said, "group hug." I gave her a hug and informed her that her papa is going to Antarctica. I'm going to miss you, dad, she exclaimed, clearly excited to hear that. She was curious, so she asked, "Why?"

I have no idea how to explain to a five-year-old. The misso came to rescue again and told her that dad is going to fix the internet so that people living in Antarctica can make phone calls to family back home. I'm proud of you, dad; you're doing a great job. Don't worry about us; mum and I are very brave, she replied.

Here I am, spending the summer of 2023–2024 on Davis Station (ANTARCTICA), telling my story and bringing pride to my family back home.

P.S. Miss you Puttar (Ruhbani) and Happy Birthday beautiful (Harpreet) 30th Dec
